Frequently Asked Questions
What are the benefits of moving to Objective Build?
Here are the best bits about Objective Build:
- It’s easier to apply for Building Consents, because all of your applications will be visible through a single logon, (even if lodged with different councils). You can also apply for Code Compliance Certificates (CCC), Certificates of Acceptance, Project Information Memorandums (PIM) and more.
- You can keep your team in the loop, by giving others access to view consents, track their status and be notified of relevant updates. You can also easily add and remove people to your organisation.
- You can track the status of a consent from start to finish and receive progress updates.
- Managing communications with councils is easy through Objective Build. You can receive and respond to Requests for Information (RFI’s) and upload any supporting information all in one single place, with the data instantly being sent to council when you hit submit.
- Collaboration tools are available to make different team members the primary owner for set stages (for example, the builder on site as the key contact for inspections), keeping everyone involved and informed.
- You can create Contact and Document Libraries, keeping all of your most common key contacts and consent templates in one place to save time.
What will happen with building consents that are lodged prior to 1 October 2024?
They’ll continue to be processed using our previous system. This means you won’t be able to see them in the Objective Build customer portal, and you’ll need to keep sending information to us in the standard way by email to Help Desk (help.desk@cluthadc.govt.nz).
Applications submitted one week prior to October 1, 2024, might be added to the new online system. Signing in and viewing applications may be available to customers.
Will you still accept paper applications for building consents after 1 October 2024?
The majority of our building consents are already received electronically (by email). If you don’t have access to the internet, there are a few things you should consider:
- Can an agent submit the consent for you?
- Do you have a family member or friend that can help you, or who could submit the application on your behalf?
If you don’t have access to the internet nor have an email address and need to submit a paper application, please book a meeting with our building consent team in the Rosebank office, and we can assist you.
How do I register with the online system?
From 1 October, when you’re ready to lodge a building consent, open the Building Consent Application portal by clicking the 'Create and Account and Apply' button on Council’s Objective Build page, create an account for yourself if required, using your name, email address and a secure password, then you’re ready to go.
Where can I find guides on how to use Objective Build?
Objective Build offers a series of resources and videos to help you get started.

What if I’m already registered with Objective Build through a different Council?
If you are already registered with Objective Build through another council, then you don’t need to register again. Just keep using your current login and when you select the address for the consent, the system will know what council to send the application to.
Can I pay for my building consent through Objective Build?
No. When a payment is due, we will invoice you. Payment can then be made by internet banking, at our Rosebank office, or at one of our Community Libraries or the Clutha isite Visitor Information Centre.
How does the vetting and invoicing process work?
We’ll do a check to make sure that your application is complete and send you an email confirming that it is complete or advising of further information that is required.
Application fee invoices will then be sent to the nominated person once vetting is complete. The application will not be processed as accepted until all fees owing have been paid, so please ensure that payment is made promptly when you receive your invoice.
For more information on payment options please contact our Customer Services team on 0800 801 350.
Who can I contact if I need help with the online application?
Your application can be saved at any time so you don’t lose your progress. If you get stuck, save your progress, check out the video tutorials then return to your application. Objective Build also has a help desk you can call which shows up when you are logged into the portal.
Can I book an inspection via the Objective Build customer portal?
You’ll still need to call our friendly building control team to book an inspection on 03 419 0232.
After each inspection, you’ll receive an Inspection Report via email. The inspection will also be uploaded into your customer portal to view any time.
Am I able to see my consent in the portal if an agent has lodged it for me?
Yes. Your agent can invite you as a user to the consent. If you’ve requested access and haven’t received it, give our building team a call on 0800 801 350 and once we’ve confirmed your details, we’ll add you to the consent.
You’ll be able to see all the same information as your agent.
