How to request information
We have a range of information available on our website, but if you’re seeking information that isn’t on this website, you can make a request for this under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA).
How to make a request

- Phone us on 0800 801 350 or 03 419 0200
- Ask in person at a council office or library
Please be as specific as you can when you make your request; this will help us to find the information for you.
How long will a response take?
We will acknowledge your request and you will receive the information within 20 working days.
Sometimes information cannot be provided within 20 days, for example if your request is complex, involves a large amount of research and collation, or requires us to consult with other parties. If this is the case, we may extend the time limit and will advise you.
Urgent requests
You can ask that your request be treated as urgent. If you do, you must give reasons for the need for urgency.
Withholding information
We may withhold information for specific reasons. If we do, we’ll explain why.
The specific reasons we may withhold information are set out in sections 6 and 7 of the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act. The most common reasons to withhold information are to protect peoples’ privacy, maintain legal privilege and enable the Council to carry out commercial activities.
What will it cost?
Generally, there will be no charge for your request. However, if a request is for a significant amount of information, or requires substantial collation and research, we may consider imposing a charge. If there is going to be an associated cost we will contact you before we move forward with the request. You will then be able to decide if you would like to proceed with, refine or withdraw your request.

Review of decisions
If you are unhappy with our response you are able to have our decisions reviewed by the Office of the Ombudsman.
Privacy Act 2020
Under the Privacy Act you can request to see any personal information we hold about you and you can ask us to correct your personal information. You can do this by calling 0800 801 350, 03 419 0200 or emailing help.desk@cluthadc.govt.nz.
