How do I enrol to vote?
You're eligible to enrol and vote if you're 18 years or older, a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, and you've lived in New Zealand continuously for 12 months or more at some time in your life.
Every eligible person in a household can enrol and post their own individual vote.
If you're enrolled for the general election, you'll automatically be placed on the Council's electoral roll.
If English is not your first language, the Vote.NZ website has multilingual information about enrolling to vote.

Clutha District ratepayer?
If you pay rates on a property but live in another part of the country, you may be eligible to enroll on the ratepayer roll. In that situation, a person can vote in the area where they live, and the area where they pay rates.
Please contact Council's Electoral Officer to discuss this and check your eligibility. Your eligibility to enrol or be nominated as a ratepayer elector may also depend on your individual circumstances, determined by the Local Electoral Act 2001.
Clutha District Council's Electoral Officer:

Living overseas?
If you’re overseas, you can enrol to vote in the local elections if you are a New Zealand citizen who has been in New Zealand within the last 3 years, or you’re a New Zealand permanent resident who has been in New Zealand in the last 12 months.
Make sure you’re correctly enrolled with an overseas postal address to get your voting papers. You can’t download or return voting papers electronically for local elections.
