Public feedback invited on Draft Milton Reserve Management Plan
Consultation on the proposed Reserve Management Plan for Milton has opened today and Council invites the community’s feedback.
The plan focuses on five reserves within the Milton urban area, all administered by Clutha District Council, and determines each reserve’s purpose as well as the intended activities permitted at each reserve.
The Reserve Management Plan is designed to create an overarching framework under which specific activities can be authorised to occur on our reserves. It does not set out the operational details of such activities - these are handled by way of other mechanisms such as land leases or the Our Place Milton Community Plan.
In developing the Draft Reserve Management Plan document, Council has taken into account previous feedback received from the public, much of which relating to the additional cabins proposed as part of the Taylor Park Camping Ground.
Once the Milton Reserve Management Plan is finalised, it will provide clarity to reserve users, community groups that are involved in the use, management, or promotion of reserves, Council staff responsible for maintenance and development of the reserves, and elected representatives that are responsible for allocating resources towards projects on reserves.
Clutha District Mayor Bryan Cadogan says “Milton is poised for transformational change and our plan is a pivotal opportunity for everyone to consider and define what a future focused, vibrant, and exciting town needs to enhance and retain the many natural advantages that Milton has.”
Clutha District Council now welcomes the community’s feedback on the Draft Reserve Management Plan, and encourages everyone to have their say on the types of activity that should take place on Milton’s reserves, as well as any changes they feel should be made to the objectives and policies of the Draft Reserve Management Plan.
The consultation period will close on 2 February 2024, and then a Council hearing will be held to consider the submissions. At this hearing submitters will have the opportunity to speak to their submission.
