Contract between Clutha District Council and Citycare Water to end
Clutha District Council’s water operations and maintenance contract with Citycare Water will end by mutual agreement on 30 June 2023.
Council is working toward a new approach in delivering water services for the Clutha District until they become the responsibility of a proposed new Otago/Southland water entity on or before 1 July 2026.
Council and Citycare Water are working together collaboratively to progress a transition ahead of the contract ending.
Clutha District Mayor Bryan Cadogan says, “We ask our residents to support Citycare Water and council staff as we work through this process. Both council and Citycare Water are committed to providing continuity of work and employment to our local Citycare Water staff.”
Other contractors are being brought in to help provide services during the transition period while council is also progressing plans for how water operations will continue after the contract ends.
It is anticipated that once the contract ends, operation and maintenance of treatment plants (water and wastewater) will be done by council staff, but contractors including local contractors will be needed to maintain the pipes network. Council will soon seek expressions of interest for this work.
Citycare Water was awarded the five year contract in mid 2019.
