Precautionary conserve water notice
Precautionary conserve water notice as Pomahaka River approaches minimum flow
Residents of Tapanui, and consumers on the Glenkenich, Moa Flat, and Waipahi RWS, are asked to closely monitor their water usage and conserve where possible.
This is due to the Pomahaka River approaching its minimum flow level of 3.6 cumecs (3600 l/s). Users are asked to be mindful of their water consumption during this low-flow period and to delay any activities that require significant water usage, if possible.
Tapanui residents are included in this conservation notice because their water supply comes from Whiskey Gully, which feeds into the Pomahaka.
In accordance with the Otago Regional Council's consent requirements, we must implement water conservation measures for the region, including Tapanui, once the minimum flow level of 3.6 cumecs (3600 l/s) is reached.
Please share this information with your neighbours and anyone else who might not be aware. We appreciate your understanding.
Water Conservation Tips:
- Avoid letting water run unnecessarily.
- Opt for showers instead of baths for better water efficiency.
- Refrain from washing vehicles and boats.
- Report leaks to the Council.
Council would also like to remind consumers that Tapanui is currently at Stage 2 water restrictions. This means sprinklers and irrigation systems are banned and only handheld watering is permitted, between the hours of 8pm and 8am. Handheld watering systems can not be left unattended. Please remember to follow the restrictions, fix leaks at your place and report any public leaks or if you notice anyone not adhering to the water restrictions report this to Council on 0800 801 350 or through Antenno.
