Milton Main Street update: 13 – 20 December 2024
The under grounding of Milton’s main street overhead lines will have minor impacts for traffic from 13 – 20 December 2024.
PowerNet will have all old power poles removed, and new poles connected by the end of today. (Friday 13 December).
Council’s contractor Andrew Haulage will have a crew working on the west side of Union Street, laying water pipe in the footpath from Abercrombie to Elizabeth St intersection. This work will continue until the 20 December.
Cross Street and Springfield Road may be closed at various times for short periods for the laying of water pipe.
A second crew from Andrew Haulage will be working around the streets cleaning up ready to leave the main shopping area Tuesday 17 December.
Traffic will be able to travel in both directions along Union Street but there will be safety measures and a 30km speed restriction in place.
As part of this full Milton Main Street improvement project, one pedestrian crossing has been moved to be closer to where the new Bruce Community Facility will be built and the other has been moved towards the Plaza area for traffic safety reasons.
The main street footpath resealing, from High Street to Abercrombie Street, has been deferred until the end of January. This is to mitigate the risk of disrupting people doing their Christmas shopping. Completion is scheduled for March 2025.
However, NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi is intending to begin resealing a significant portion of the Milton main street in January. Visit the NZTA Journey Planner and their Facebook page for more information.
