Stirling, Benhar & South Bruce Rural Water Scheme - Boil Water update
The boil water notice for Stirling, Benhar, Cherry Lane residents and the South Bruce Rural Water Scheme is likely to remain in place until 2025.
Unfortunately, the damage from the flooding event to the Stirling Water Treatment Plan was extensive.
We are currently undertaking a structural assessment on the plant’s filter system with a view to replace drainage and backwash pipework (which is needed to keep the filter operating efficiently).
This repair work is substantial, and specialised parts need to be brought in from overseas (England). We are also working with our insurers on a claim.
Temporary containerised filter systems were considered however, there were long lead times for these options to be sourced and it was decided to select a permanent refurbishment option that also has a similar lead time.
It is of note that this is a rural water scheme and decisions regarding any repair work to the treatment plant have been approved by the scheme committee.
Council urges anyone using water from their tap for consumption (including teeth cleaning and washing fruit and vegetables) to boil it for 1 minute before it is used.
Council thanks people for their patience while we work to resolve this.
The water tanker parked at the Stirling Athenaeum Hall has been removed and replaced with a green water tank which has a tap fitting, which will be easier to use. Please use clean containers.
