Littering and illegal dumping
What else can I do to help?
There are things that we can all do to help reduce the amount of litter we see around our beautiful district. Be a role model! Your positive action towards littering encourages others to do the same.
We have litter bins located throughout the district, or you can simply take your rubbish home for disposal in your wheelie bins.
If our public litter bins are overflowing, don't add to the pile, take your rubbish home. Contact Council and let us know if a bin needs to be emptied in the district.
If you are planning a litter clean up in your area, get in touch with Council. We can help with bags and gloves for volunteers.
Infringement fees
Infringement fees for littering within the Clutha District in a public place, or on private land without the occupier’s consent, are as follows:
Littering type | Fine |
---|---|
Minor littering | $100 |
Major littering | $400 |
Minor Littering: Littering is on a small scale and not likely to cause harm or injury to any person, for example, drink cans and food packaging.
Major Littering: More serious littering offences where litter is in large quantities, or of a noxious nature, or likely to cause harm or injury to any person. For example, household waste, commercial waste, green waste or car parts.
