Tapanui – Boil water reminder
Council reminds consumers that a boil water notice is in place for Tapanui. This is due to treatment difficulties at the plant.
Update 25/03/2025
The nozzles have been fitted and our testing shows there is some further work required before putting the media back into the tank. We have sought advice on the extent of the work required and are awaiting instructions from our external advisor.
Council continues to test for e coli and other bacteria and these results are available here.
Water tank:
A bigger water tanker has replaced the small water tank and it is available in Tapanui, next to PGG where you can fill your own clean containers with drinking water.
This notice will be in place until we are satisfied that the water being received at the plant is consistently clear. We will provide an update when we are able to do so.

Water restrictions:
Council would also like to remind people that Tapanui is currently at Stage 2 water restrictions.
This means sprinklers and irrigation systems are banned and only handheld watering is permitted, between the hours of 8pm and 8am.
Handheld watering systems can not be left unattended.
Please remember to follow the restrictions, fix leaks at your place and report any public leaks or if you notice anyone not adhering to the water restrictions to Council on 0800 801 350 or through Antenno.
