Summer water restrictions are now in place for the Clutha District
Summer water restrictions are now in place for the Clutha District Summer is the time of year when we ask everyone to play their part to help conserve water.
When demand exceeds the rate at which we can fill reservoirs, Council will introduce water restrictions. Keeping reservoirs full helps maintain water pressure, which is especially important for firefighting.
Stage 1 restrictions are usually put in place on1 December throughout the Clutha District.
However, this time we chose to delay it because of the high rainfall the district has experienced.
Stage 1 restrictions are now in place and mean you can only water your garden between 8pm - 8am, which simply means no watering during the day.
Water systems can be used but not left unattended, so don’t go to bed with your sprinkler running at night! Please help save water to avoid having more stringent water restrictions put in place later in the summer.
Lawrence water update:
Lawrence’s main water supply comes from Bluejacket Gully creek, which was previously fed from the Phoenix Dam. With the dam decommissioned there is an operational bypass around the dam.
To ensure there is enough water for summer, Council has also done work to reinstate the existing Bungtown Race and the siphon.
The Bungtown race did suffer minimal damage from landslips following recent rainfall events however, this has now been repaired.
Report leaks:
Conserve your water use, check for leaks and also report any leaks in public places to Council.
The water alerts section on our website provides updates on water restrictions, when they are in place and which area in Clutha is affected. www.cluthadc.govt.nz/alerts
